Preparing Hearts and Minds for the Future


Middle School at Corpus Christi School empowers students to lead with faith, integrity, and purpose. As academic expectations grow, so do their sense of responsibility, leadership, and service to others. Students are prepared for the challenges of high school and inspired to have an influence in the world.

 

Religion

Using the Spirit of Truth curriculum, students explore scripture, Church history, morality, and the life of Christ. Retreats, service projects, and daily prayers help them live their faith in action.

 

Language Arts

Middle school students use Into Literature as their core text, strengthening their reading, writing, and communication skills through a variety of literary works, essays, and presentations. Grammar and vocabulary are refined as students learn to express their ideas clearly and persuasively. Throughout the year, students read and discuss a range of novels, developing analytical and critical thinking skills through meaningful literary discussions.

Using the Simplify Writing program, students gain confidence in crafting well-structured essays and writing in a variety of styles preparing them for high school and beyond. In Seventh and Eighth Grades, students who qualify may participate in Advanced Literature, an enriched course that deepens their understanding of classic and contemporary works through higher-level analysis and reflection.

 

Mathematics

Our Middle School math program builds strong reasoning and critical thinking skills:

 

  • 6th Grade: Foundational math concepts, number sense, ratios, and pre-algebraic thinking.
  • 7th Grade: Pre-Algebra, exploring expressions, equations, proportions, and geometry.
  • 8th Grade: Algebra I, applying mathematical concepts to real-world situations.

 

All three grade levels offer accelerated math for students who qualify. Geometry is available to advanced 8th graders, offering an opportunity for high school credit.

 

Science

Students use HMH Science Dimensions, aligned with NGSS and the California Science Framework. The program promotes inquiry-based, hands-on learning focused on:

  • Crosscutting Concepts
  • Science and Engineering Practices

 

Students think and act like scientists as they investigate life, physical, and Earth sciences—developing curiosity, collaboration, and creativity for success in the 21st century.

 

Social Studies

Using HMH Inquiry-Based Social Studies, students engage with history through discussion and discovery.

 

  • Grades 6–7: Ancient Civilizations—exploring how geography, culture, and innovation shaped early societies.
  • Grade 8: U.S. History—examining the founding principles of our nation and the people who continue to shape its democracy.

 

Leadership and Faith in Action

Middle School students lead through service, community involvement, and participation in school liturgies. They graduate prepared for the next chapter of their education—strong in faith, confident in purpose, and ready to serve others.
