Volunteer Requirements

The Safeguard the Children office at Los Angeles Archdiocese has mandated that all volunteers working with children must be Virtus trained.  The Virtus certification is valid for four years, and at that time, a re-certification course must be completed.  Many of our parents, who have already gone through the program, have expressed how beneficial it was for them.
The Virtus training program, entitled Protecting God’s Children, is a preventative course, designed to teach you the signs to look for, as well as methods for reducing the chance of child sexual abuse.  The Virtus training program contains material that is thoughtfully presented and will heighten your understanding and insight regarding child abuse.
In addition to the Virtus certification, the Safeguard the Children Archdiocesan office requires all parents who plan to volunteer with the children on a regular basis to also be fingerprinted.  This includes coaches, clinic volunteers, and fieldtrip chaperones.
