Corpus Christi promotes the fine arts within our curriculum. In each grade, theatrical arts are included in daily lessons. The school's drama department aims to help students gain an appreciation for the fine arts while increasing self-confidence and literacy achievement. We conduct annual musical and theatrical productions each spring. Third through eighth grade students participate in all performance aspects of the production, including tech and backstage crews.
Beginning in kindergarten, students perform in spring and fall productions that encourage oral fluency, expression and prosody. A visit from the popular Story Pirates improvisation troupe motivates creative writing and includes performances of student-written pieces.
Theatrical entertainment continues when second grade students showcase their knowledge of historic figures during our interactive Wax Museum.
Fourth and fifth grade students integrate performance arts into social science curriculum by attending the live interactive Walk through California and Walk through the American Revolution.
In middle school, education strategies like Reader's Theater and literature performances are incorporated into multiple content areas. Working with Shakespearean sonnets and readings, our eighth grade students learn proper oral presentation and poetic interpretation techniques. Reader's Theater and short skits are also widely used to increase reading achievement and literacy comprehension.
